For every person who walks, runs or bikes to work, Homeland, a company with a mission, is committed to planting a tree in Madagascar.
In this way, every personal effort made as part of this project will contribute to a triple cause 👇Every non-motorized journey to work contributes to improving your carbon footprint and that of your employer.
Regular exercise has undeniable benefits for physical health and mental well-being. It's a great way to start the day with energy and positivity.
Every tree planted in Madagascar contributes to reforestation, which is vital to our beloved planet: it limits CO² emissions and protects biodiversity.
Deforestation is a major problem worldwide. In Madagascar, deforestation is a particularly serious problem. Since independence in 1960, 100,000 hectares of primary forest go up in smoke every year, equivalent to ten times the surface area of the city of Paris. In 2017, Madagascar sadly led the world in deforestation, with 510,000 hectares of natural forest destroyed.
The primary forests in the east of the island have historically suffered the most from deforestation. Deforestation of natural forests is both a cause and a consequence of climate change. It is also linked to poverty. Deforestation has serious consequences for the planet. It contributes to climate change by releasing carbon dioxide into the atmosphere and reducing the capacity of forests to absorb carbon dioxide. It also leads to a significant loss of biodiversity and soil erosion.
Homeland, a modern condominium management company, is committed , as a Company with a Missionto work towards the sustainability of our territories, in particular by promoting soft mobility and biodiversity.
It is in this context that we have decided to launch this reforestation operation in Madagascar, which seeks to raise awareness of these issues among as many people as possible, by planting a tree for every non-motorized journey between home and work, and thus helping to restore the tropical forest in the north-east of the island of Madagascar.
We promise to email you news of your tree(s) at least once a month.
To effectively restore a tropical forest, 3 types of trees and plants are essential:
1. large trees, for the canopy (emergents),
2. medium trees, for the middle stratum,
3. shrubs and small trees, for the lower stratum.
Here are a few examples of the 18 tree varieties that will be planted with your help:
Their tasks include clearing our plot, looking after the nursery, preparing and maintaining the pots and shoots, planting them on the plot and regularly monitoring the development of your trees and our plot.
Our 10,650 m² plot is located in the Sava region in the north-east of Madagascar. For every journey made on foot, run or bike, we will plant a tree that we have grown in our nursery. The aim is to recreate a tropical forest, which requires a wide variety of species.
It's in these nurseries that our team germinates and gives birth to the 20 species of plants and trees we'll then be able to plant on our plot for every non-motorized commute you make.
The mode of transport must be totally carbon-free.
Walking, running, non-electric bicycles, rollerblades, non-electric scooters, skateboards... electric or electrically-assisted vehicles are not eligible.
Yes.
The route must be at least 3 km long and must be validated from an activity recorded on Garmin Connect, Strava, RunKeeper or another activity-tracking application, or from your route history on a geolocation application such as Google Maps.
Yes.
If you're teleworking or don't have a job at the moment, you can still make a journey that's eligible for tree-planting: all you need to do is make a non-motorized journey of at least 3 km close to your home.
Yes, up to a limit of 21 trees.
You can contribute to the planting of several trees by making several eligible trips and respecting for each of these trips the comment instructions on the Linkedin post and tagging a different person for each activity.
Why 21? Because they say it takes 21 days to establish a habit :)
The surface area of our plot is 10,650 m², which should enable us to plant a maximum of 17,750 trees.
Indeed, to restore a natural forest, a minimum distance of 60cm is essential between each tree, whether small, medium or large.
Yes, within the limit of one activity.
If you've already made eligible journeys in the past without knowing about this operation, you can participate by highlighting the most recent of these activities, which will result in the planting of a tree.
No.
Our plantation manager is responsible for ensuring the diversity of species planted on the plot, and will therefore decide in which order the trees will be planted to ensure the balance necessary for the development of this plot of tropical forest.
Yes.
We promise to send you news of the tree planted as a result of your activity by email once every six months.
