Meaux is a commune in the Seine et Marne department, in the Île de France region. It lies 41km east of Paris. With a population of 55,750 in 2019, it is the most populous town in its département. Its surface area is 14.98km², equivalent to a population density of 3,722 inhabitants per km². Meaux is unusual in that it lies in a basin carved out of the Brie plateau by the river Marne. The river makes a loop through the town, but is not navigable in the center by barges. However, there are locks to enable barges to pass through.
Meaux has 467 condominiums, almost half of which (229) have fewer than 10 lots. Only one condominium has more than 200 lots. The majority of co-ownerships are managed by professional syndicates. There are 316 of them, compared with 35 non-professional syndicates. After a sharp downturn in construction after 1949, the building sector has recovered. Since 2000, it has been rising steadily.
Among the city's projects, the planting of trees continues to play a key role. The major plan implemented over the years has led to the planting of thousands of trees in all neighborhoods, for a greener, more breathable and calmer city. An arboretum dedicated to a thousand endemic species from the Île-de-France region, on the edge of the Pâtis park, is currently being planned. In addition, a pedestrianization plan is planned to revitalize downtown commerce and liven up the streets. It will cover a vast area including Place Henri-Moissan, Place de l'Hôtel de Ville Jacques-Chirac and Place Lafayette.
Current condominium charges in Meaux are around €27 per m² per year. Of course, the running costs of a building depend on a number of factors, and in particular on any energy renovation projects (lagging, insulation of special points, etc.) to reduce energy losses.
