Mérignac is located in the Gironde department, in the Nouvelle Aquitaine region. It belongs to the western suburbs of Bordeaux, and is the most densely populated of these suburbs. Mérignac is also home to the city's airport. Covering an area of 48.17km², its population in 2019 was 72,197, representing a density of 1,499 inhabitants per square kilometer.
Mérignac has 470 condominiums, the majority of which (196) have between 11 and 49 lots. Of these, 323 are managed by professional syndicates, compared with 124 by non-professional syndicates. Before 1949, there were very few of them. The construction boom began in 1961 and has continued to the present day, with the exception of a downturn between 1994 and 2000.
The town of Mérignac has committed itself to the creation of a Maison de la Nature. The aim of this innovative facility is to support ecological transition initiatives. It will bring together nature-related resources, experiences and initiatives in an emblematic, central location in the city, addressing the major themes of the ecological transition from the perspective of education and discovery. Delivery is scheduled for the start of the 2024 school year. In addition, as part of the Plan Colleges 2024, the city is continuing to build educational and sports facilities adapted to the demographic growth observed in the various neighborhoods. From the start of the 2024 school year, the collège de Beutre will open its doors to nearly 700 general education students.
Co-ownership charges for Mérignac-based buildings average €21 per m² per year. Of course, these charges cannot be compared from one building to another. You have to compare what is comparable, i.e. a condominium with the same characteristics, i.e. number of lots, presence of an elevator and/or building employee, and heating (collective or individual).
Depending on the number of lots, the cost of condominium charges rises from €1,323 for a complex with over 200 lots to €997 for a complex with 11 to 49 lots.
