Saint Maur des Fossés is a commune in the Val de Marne department, in the Île de France region. It lies to the southeast of Paris, and is a peninsula surrounded by a loop of the Marne River, crossed by seven bridges (five road and two rail) and two footbridges. The city covers an area of 11.25 km². With a population of 74,976 in 2019, its density is 6,665 inhabitants per square kilometer.

The former Essilor site in the town of Saint Maur des Fossés is currently being renovated for the construction of housing. The residential project comprises 130 home-ownership units and 70 social housing units spread over one hectare, as well as 7 pavilions. Buildings are limited to a maximum height of 5 storeys - i.e. first floor plus four upper floors - and range from R+2 to R+4. Parking will be provided underground. The Four crèche will be relocated to this site, while the former crèche square will be laid out as a square. The housing will be built around a 5,000 m² formal garden dedicated to vegetable production. Eventually, 12 tonnes of vegetables will be produced each year to supply the organic restaurant that will be set up on the site.
